Why I’ve Joined Beautycounter + 3 Products to Ease Into Clean Beauty With

Hi! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted something new here. I hope you’re all doing okay adjusting to this new normal. It depends on the day for me. With all the coronavirus stuff going on the world has felt out of sorts and when I get anxious the first thing to go is my creative energy. But I always feel better after checking in here, so today I’m looking forward to sharing a little bit of my why behind my decision to join Beautycounter and 3 products you can introduce to your daily routine to ease into cleaner beauty.

It’s important for me to be up front and add that I am not a trained or licensed aesthetician by any means. It’s always a good idea to seek out a professional’s opinion and advice on your skin’s needs. Whatever I share here is a personal account of how Beautycounter has worked for me or my friends/family.

What is Beautycounter?

Beautycounter originated in California with a mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. They create safer, cleaner cosmetics and skin care products and focus their energies on education, products (including transparency around ingredients), and advocacy. My Why Falls Into 3 Categories: Health, Community, and Fun

Health: There are things no one will ever be able to tell me about my miscarriages. I know it’s nothing Mike or I did and even the experts can only hypothesize why this has happened. For those of us whose paths to starting a family are more winding than we ever imagined when we started, our stories are all so unique and yet so similar. There’s a bond between us and while we wouldn’t wish these circumstances on anyone, we also need each other. So. What does this have to do with Beautycounter? No amount of cleaner mascara or moisturizer is going to guarantee me a successful pregnancy, but I appreciate the peace of mind using cleaner products gives me. It gives me a sense of control that’s missing from my pregnancy journey. If I can easily eliminate questionable or harmful chemicals from my routine without sacrificing quality, I’m in.

Community: I like working on my own, but I love being part of a group. I gravitate towards the energy of positive, supportive, encouraging humans. Beautycounter makes me feel like I’m part of a family that’s planning or having a party all the time. They’re always putting out inspiring webinars, Zoom calls, and behind the scenes details behind a product launch. I love that transparency and it t feels like I’m part of something meaningful. I can opt in to these things are much or as little as I like and that was a biiiig reason I decided to join. This experience is mine and that’s empowering to me.

Fun: I’ve always loved playing with makeup and skincare! As a blogger and storyteller, it brings me so much joy to share the things I’m excited about and how they might help make your life easier, brighter, safer, etc. As a consultant I’m able to purchase cleaner skin care and makeup at a discount, making it easier for me to talk honestly about more products.

Let’s be real, switching to cleaner can be confusing and overwhelming!

Laundry detergent, dryer sheers, toothpaste, nail polish, candles, lotion, shampoo…this list of clean/er options goes on. Where do we start? Does it matter?

I was just texting with my girlfriend today about how I’m trying to learn all I can about Beautycounter’s products, their ingredients, what they do, who they’re best for, etc. It’s tough to keep it all straight! Figuring out how to bring more clean products into your life can be like going down a rabbit hole if you’re not careful. Maybe you went from innocently researching body lotion and ended up reading about diamond mining in Africa. Who knows. The point is, there are hundreds of places to start with cleaner beauty or products in general.

Here is my top recommendation from my mentor to me to you: Start with products that are on your skin all day. Think moisturizers, lotions, and other serums or creams.
